About Me
Here's what you really want to know about me. I'm one of those rare
people who's equally good at both the magic and logic of branding.
I've got the kind of mind that lets me readily make those little
mental leaps that lead to a fresh way of looking at your brand.
I'm intensely curious about nearly everything. I'm really good at
putting myself in someone else's shoes. And I'm just plain easy
to work with. No drama, no excuses only great work, on time
and on budget.
Before running my own show, I was the Managing Director of the Los
Angeles office of a leading San Francisco branding agency. I've
also been a key contributor to Nomen, the largest European naming
agency, and I continue to provide creative services to a select
list of the world's leading international and specialty branding,
advertising, design, and public relations agencies. In addition
to North America and Europe, I have extensive experience in Asia,
Oceania, Latin America, and Africa. In my vagabond days, I was a
shepherd in New Zealand, a dairyhand in Norway, an exchange student
in Australia, a beach bum in Rarotonga, and a gopher in Hollywood.
Believe it or not, I gravitated to branding and naming as a result
of my experience as a Ph.D. candidate at UCLA, specializing in Indo-European
and Malayo-Polynesian historical linguistics and comparative mythology.
I realized a good story is a good story, whether it's new or old.
I went on to earn my M.B.A. in Marketing (with a concentration in
branding and naming) at Loyola Marymount University, and I have
a B.A. in Linguistics from the University of California at Davis.
I truly love what I do for a living, but I've got a life too. I'm
a native of Manhattan Beach, California, and I work out of a rather
ramshackle cottage in neighboring Redondo Beach. I've got a lovely
wife, three growing boys, and a recently-rescued dachshund. In my
spare time, I like to travel, hike, and cook. I coach youth basketball
and soccer, and I'm an unapologetic Lakers fan. When I have some
inspiration left over from my day job, I write. I'm working on a
thriller set in WWII Japan, an epic fantasy, some comic book concepts,
and a book on what else? branding and naming. |
